I heart a Tangled

A Single Blade of Grass

A few weeks ago M's family pulled out all the stops to help us raise money to adopt.
There were tons of cute things and tasty treats.

To say that we did well would be an understatement.  We were both overwhelmed and humbled by everyone's generosity. It left us wondering how we could possibly thank everyone for helping us make our dreams come true. It reminded me of a Chinese proverb that I heard once- How does a single blade of grass thank the Sun?
To all those who have pitched in, know that we are beyond grateful to you and your open hearts and giving souls.

Trains

M's parents found this really great train place, here locally, that is a ton of fun.

They have all sorts of fun things to do there.  A big train, small train, mini-golf, playground, and train stuff everywhere. The small train was both our favourite.

British Party 2012

A few weeks ago we held our 4th annual British Party.

The King and Queen

We had a great feast. Fish, salads, baked beans, bread sticks, cheese, and of course sticky toffee pudding. We also had some new additions, authentic flavored British crisps (chips) - Prawn, steak and onion, and various other flavors that were okay and not so okay.

The Queen brought all the ladies princess hats and all the gentlemen swords. Here we see a duel in action.
It was an excellent time, and next year will be our 5th annual! What fun will we come up with next year?

Work and stuff

When you work in law enforcement, sometimes weird things are super funny.

One of my co-workers and I have been playing a few pranks on each other lately. It started with me putting a picture of a chicken on her push-pin board, and then we've been going back and forth ever since. This was my latest attempt. Some of you will think it is weird but, my office thought it was pretty funny. We will see what happens next......

Hutch

I've been looking for a china hutch for awhile, and everything was either just so expensive or just the wrong style. But I saw this one and thought it could be the one, but it too was mucho dinero.

But on Presidents day, I told M, we should go back and look at it again, and low and behold it was on clearance more than half off. Yippee! I'm so excited. I have all these really fun dishes that I have accrued over the years and now they have a home.

I love the latch and the drawers. Fun details always get me.

Wait, wait....

This past Thursday, M, myself, and an auditorium full of NPR nerds went to a live taping of Wait, Wait.... don't tell me.

For those who are new and don't understand what all this means here are some definitions.

NPR: National Public Radio (like PBS, without the TV)

Wait, Wait.. Don't tell me: A quiz game show with panelists and guests.

The whole evening was a blast. I haven't laughed that hard in a while. I also prepared myself for all sorts of LDS church jokes, and there were a few, but not too bad. Also very few mild swears. We had a great time, and when they come back, we're so going again.

Book Signing

A few days ago, I went to a book signing with my favorite book signing crew. One of favorite authors, Shannon Hale, came to town with her new book and pen in tow. So we had to go.

We had a jolly good time waiting in line. I brought my camera to document it, sock/camera case and all. (My camera bag is too big and heavy to fit in my purse, so I grabbed a 'sneaker peeker' sock to help protect it just a little. It was a clean sock, and it did the job good; don't knock it, 'til you try it)

No one has as much fun as our crew at a book signing!

Batting a 1,000

It's been one of those weekends where I should just stay home.

M and I went to the warehouse store to get some milk and whatever other shinny things catch our eye. I had a light fleece jacket on, because it was a little cold, but let's face it winter is never going to come this year. M stopped to say hello to some people he knew and I was just wondering around doing my thing. We almost get to checkout and realize that my jacket is on inside out, and mind you this jacket is not reversible. What makes it really sad though, is this is the second time this week I've put my jacket on inside out. M had a good chuckle whilst I fixed the jacket. I guess I need to start making myself a checklist everyday: watch, keys, purse, jacket right side in......

Intruder Alert

So the other day I was home from work and I had just settled downstairs to watch one of my "stuffy" British shows and fold some laundry. I'm just enjoying myself when I hear what sounds like someone opening my front door and coming in my house (M was still at work). So I thought well maybe it's M, and he came home early, so I bellowed his name and no answer. So I then proceed to the stairway and yell 'HELLO'! No answer, but I still hear clomping and something or someone doing something in my house.

Now, most rational people would a) call the police or b) runway and find safety. Not me I look around for a weapon to use. The first thing I see is a IBC glass root beer bottle. My brain said 'oh yeah, this will do some damage, remember that episode of Mythbusters you saw.' So I grab this glass bottle and go walking into the front room. As I turn the corner, I look and see who is about to get it with this glass bottle and no one is there. I still hear the noise but it's from outside now. Turns out that the gas company was replacing our gas meter, which is right next to our front door, so what I thought was someone coming into the house turned out to be the repair man banging on the pipes of trying to get the old one off the house. Pheww!

I was so relieved; so I put the root beer bottle back on the counter and had myself a good laugh.

That bookshop

On the side of my blog I put a list of great used/rare book stores that I really enjoy. Well a few years back my sister and I stumbled on this bookstore at Pike's Market and I couldn't remember the name of the store. Well M and I went to Seattle this fall and I was determined to find that bookshop again....

...and we did! I love little bookshops.

We talked to the bookseller and talked about fun places to look at books in Seattle and just had a nice visit. It was a really wet and cold day and it is always nice to find a warm to nook to hide out it.

Across from the bookshop there was the yummiest chocolate milk. Books and chocolate milk a great combination!

Brave Trailer

A Pixar Scottish movie.....! I've already circled the date on my calendar!
